You might not have been told this… but your diet and lifestyle choices matter

If you’ve ever been told there’s nothing you can do for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), I want you to know—I strongly, respectfully, disagree.

Yes, there’s currently no medical cure.

But that doesn’t mean you’re powerless.

There is so much you can do to support your eye health, calm inflammation, protect your retina, and potentially slow or even stabilise the progression of AMD—especially if you focus on the root causes. I’ve seen it first-hand with clients. I’ve read the research. And I’ve built my entire practice around helping people take back that control.

AMD Is Not Just About Age or Genetics

AMD isn’t random. It’s strongly associated with:

  • Chronic, low-grade inflammation

  • Oxidative stress in the retina

  • Mitochondrial dysfunction (energy production decline in retinal cells)

  • Blood sugar imbalance and insulin resistance

  • Nutrient deficiencies—especially antioxidants, omega-3s, and key vitamins

  • Environmental and lifestyle factors (like poor diet, toxins, inactivity, and stress)

And all of these are modifiable.

What You Can Influence

You can’t change your age or genes.

But you can change:

  • What you eat

  • How you sleep

  • How you move

  • How you manage stress

  • How much inflammation and oxidative stress your body is dealing with

  • How well your mitochondria and immune system are functioning

This is what I help my clients with every day.

Your Eyes Respond to Nutrients

Your macula relies on specific nutrients to function and protect itself—lutein, zeaxanthin, DHA, zinc, vitamin C, glutathione, and more.

Your retina is energy-hungry and metabolically active—it needs the right inputs to thrive.

When you give your body what it needs, your eyes benefit.

When you reduce what harms it, your eyes get a break from constant stress.

It’s never too late to start.

So No—It’s Not Hopeless

You might have been told that it’s just something you have to live with. But that’s not the whole story. You don’t have to sit and wait for your eyesight to get worse.

You can take action. You can change your future.

And I’d love to help.
